The main aim of the paper is to review literature on supply chain challenges and key success factors for SMEs and to draw the theoretical linkage between the two phenomena. The narrative literature review is undertaken as a method of the research. The paper starts from the literature review on supply chain challenges which is followed by the analysis of key success factors of supply chains and SMEs. The findings reveal that SMEs are still locked in their own performance limitations and coping with their own success thus can hardly support the success of supply chain; however, solving their own success problems SMEs can become a valuable and supportive partner in the pursuit of success of the whole supply chain. Keywords: supply chain, challenges, key success factors, small and medium size enterprises (SME).Straipsnio pagrindinis tikslas yra atlikti tiekimo grandinės iššūkių ir mažų bei vidutinių įmonių kritinių sė-kmės veiksnių literatūros analizę, ir nustatyti teorinius ryšius tarp šių dviejų fenomenų. Tyrimui naudotas teorinės literatūros analizės metodas. Pradžioje nagrinėjami tiekimo grandinės iššūkiai, o vėliau -mažų ir vidutinių įmonių kritiniai sėkmės veiksniai. Tyrimo rezultatai atskleidžia, kad mažų ir vidutinių įmonių veiklos rezultatyvumas, galintis tenkinti tiekimo grandinės keliamus reikalavimus ir iššūkius, yra ribotas. Norėdamos tapti tiekimo grandinės sėkmės bendraautorėmis, jos pirmiausia turi spręsti savo pačių vidinės sėkmės užda-vinius. Raktiniai žodžiai: tiekimo grandinė, iššūkiai, pagrindiniai sėkmės veiksniai, mažos ir vidutinės įmonės (MVĮ).

A supply chain denotes the series of operations by which raw materials are transformed into components, subassemblies, and finished goods, and then moved through a distribution system to the ultimate user or consumer of the item produced. Product transformation and storage occur at nodes of the network. When those are in different countries or areas of the world, logistics and transportation (between nodes) become even more important.In this tutorial, we review and compare a number of research papers. All are international in scope. Each article emphasizes one or more decisions or activities that distinguish a global supply chain. Some, such as location decisions and supplier selection, are important for domestic supply chains but are more complicated in the international arena. Major differences include border crossings and exchange rates. Other decisions, such as switching production from one country to another, are uniquely global and may depend upon tariffs, quotas, and local content restrictions.Following our rationale for the subset of literature that we chose, those articles are discussed, categorized, and compared in several complementary ways. An assessment is offered of the research conducted to date. Further studies that may be usefully undertaken are suggested.

This paper aims at bi-objective optimisation of single product for three-layer supply chain network consisting of a factory, distribution centres (DCs) and customers including the impact of inventory management system. The key design decisions are: The location of DCs and their capacity, production capacity of the factory, product quantity to be transported from factory to each DC, product quantity to be transported from each DC to each customer, and order quantity at DCs, so as to minimise the sum of the production cost, location cost, transportation cost, ordering cost, inventory holding cost, and lost sales. The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model and solved using GAMS solver and proposed meta-heuristic algorithm. The ε-constraint method is used as solution approach to tackle the multi-objective problem when using GAMS. Because of NP-hardness of the problem, a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm based on genetic algorithm is proposed to solve large scale problems.
