A novel multicriteria sustainability investigation of energy storage systems

Summary Affordable, clean, efficient, flexible, and reliable energy storage is an important component of sustainable energy systems. There are several studies in the literature concentrating on improving the sustainability performance of energy storage systems from economic and technical perspectives. However, a comprehensive performance investigation of energy storage systems that take economic, environmental, social, and technical criteria into account is still needed. For that reason, in the present study, it is aimed to perform a complete assessment and analysis of the sustainability of energy storage systems for residential applications in communities and cities. Pumped hydro, conventional batteries, high‐temperature batteries, flow batteries, and hydrogen are the selected energy storage systems. In order to handle the vagueness and ambiguity during the assessment and to eliminate the perceived hesitancy in the decision makers' preferences, an innovative method, a hybrid hesitant fuzzy multicriteria decision‐making (MCDM) methodology composed of hesitant fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (HFAHP) and hesitant fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (HFTOPSIS), is utilized to assess the sustainability of the selected systems. In this study, four different performance criteria: economic (power cost and energy cost), environmental (pollutant emissions, area requirement, wastewater quality, and solid waste production), social (safety, accessibility, ease of use, and public acceptance), and technical (efficiency, storage capacity, cycling limit, and performance degradation) are taken into consideration. The performance evaluation results indicate that technical performance has the highest influence and social performance has the lowest influence when evaluating the sustainability of the selected energy storage systems. And hydrogen has the highest sustainability performance compared with the other selected energy storage options.

ÖZYaz spor okulları özellikle ilk veya ortaokula devam eden çocuklar için yaz sezonunda önem kazanmaktadır. Bu yaz okulları ile çocuklar hem eğlenebilir hem de yeni şeyler öğrenebilirler. Kendilerine artan talep nedeniyle, yaz spor okullarının sayısı artmaktadır. Bu yüzden, en iyi yaz spor okulunu seçmek bir karar verme problemi haline gelmektedir. Dolayısıyla bu makalede, bu yeni probleme analitik bir çözüm önerilmiştir. Önerilen yaklaşımda literatürde yakın zamanlarda sıkça kullanılan Tereddütlü-Bulanık AHP (HF-AHP), TOPSIS tekniği ile bütünleşik olarak kullanılmıştır. Önerilen bu modelin, uygulama örneğinde 4 ana ve 15 alt seçim kriterinin önem ağırlıkları HF-AHP ile belirlenmiştir. En iyi yaz spor okulu 3 alternatif arasından TOPSIS metodu kullanılarak seçilmiştir. Ayrıca yapılan duyarlılık analizi ile kriter ağırlıklarındaki değişimlerin verilen karar üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmıştır. ABSTRACTSummer sport schools have been gaining an importance especially for the children attending to primary or secondary schools in summer seasons. By these summer schools, the children can both have entertainment and learn new things. Due to the increasing demands for them, the number of summer sport schools has increased. Hence, selecting the best summer school has become a decision making problem. Therefore, in this paper, an analytical solution was proposed for this new problem. In the proposed approach, Hesitant Fuzzy AHP (HF-AHP), which is frequently used in literature in recent times, was used as integrated with TOPSIS. In the case study part of this proposed model, the importance weights of 4 main and 15 sub-criteria were determined via HF-AHP. The best summer sport school was selected among the 3 alternatives by using TOPSIS method. Furthermore, by performing sensitivity analysis, the effects of changes in criteria weights on the decision were investigated.

Abstract:Recently, a novel hesitant fuzzy set (HFS) ranking technique based on the idea of lexicographical ordering is proposed and an example is presented to demonstrate that the proposed ranking method is invariant with multiple occurrences of any element of a hesitant fuzzy element (HFE). In this paper, we show by examples that the HFS lexicographical ordering method is sometimes invalid, and a modified ranking method is presented. In comparison with the HFS lexicographical ordering method, the modified ranking method is more reasonable in more general cases.
