Foreign students face challenges in Indonesian language learning, especially grammar. Thus, they can use grammar learning strategies to understand grammar. However, research on grammar learning strategies from BIPA students’ points of view is still limited. In filling this gap, this study aims to analyze (1) strategies for learning Indonesian grammar for BIPA students and (2) the pedagogical implications of learning strategies for grammar for BIPA students. This research is a quantitative descriptive case study. The quantitative data were obtained from Grammar Learning Strategies (GLS) questionnaire. Furthermore, verbal data from respondents was obtained from semi-structured interviews. The research participants were 30 foreign students (BIPA students). Data were analyzed by using Likert-scale descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis consisting of transcription, codification, interpretation, validation, and drawing conclusions. This study found that the strategy most frequently used by BIPA students was social strategy (mean=4.28), followed respectively by metacognitive strategy (mean=4.15), cognitive strategy (mean=4.13), and affective strategy (mean=3.37). The pedagogical implication was that grammar learning needs to be designed by a contextual-communicative approach so that it can accommodate the preference of BIPA students’ learning strategies.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena yang terjadi pada konteks pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa asing yang berkaitan dengan kegiatan komunikasi antarbudaya antara pelajar asing dan orang Indonesia secara umum (pengajar BIPA, mitra bahasa, dan orang lokal), misalnya terkait kendala komunikasi antarbudaya dan sikap-sikap yang ditunjukkan pelajar asing dalam berkomunikasi antarbudaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) sikap negatif dan (2) sikap positif pelajar asing dalam memahami pesan dalam komunikasi antarbudaya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif berdasarkan fenomena yang muncul dalam pembelajaran BIPA. Data penelitian diambil melalui penyebaran angket dan wawancara mendalam terhadap pelajar asing yang berada di Universitas Negeri Malang. Hasil yang didapatkan, antara lain terdapat tiga sikap negatif, yaitu (a) sikap menyangkal, (b) sikap merasa terancam, serta (c) sikap mencari kesamaan dan tiga sikap positif, yaitu (a) sikap menerima dan menghargai, (b) sikap beradaptasi, serta (c) sikap berintegrasi yang ditunjukkan pelajar asing dalam memahami pesan dalam komunikasi antarbudaya. Penelitian ini dapat memberikan sumbangsih pemikiran dan wawasan serta dapat digunakan sebagai acuan dalam meneliti komunikasi antarbudaya lebih lanjut. Selain itu, dapat juga dimanfaatkan oleh pelajar asing maupun orang Indonesia pada umumnya, seperti pengajar BIPA, mitra bahasa, dan orang lokal sebagai referensi dalam berkomunikasi antarbudaya.

Limited media and classical teaching patterns used in Indonesian language learning. This results in less effective student learning processes in building language skills. Audio-visual-based DOMAR (Picture Fairy Tales) media was developed based on this background. This research aims to analyze the development process, feasibility, and effectiveness of media in improving the listening skills of class II students. The method in this research is the development method or Research and Development (R&D). The subjects in this research were second-grade elementary school students. The development model in this research is the ADDIE model with the following stages: (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, and (5) evaluation. Data collection consists of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses paired sample tests. The results of this development show that the media validation questionnaire is 90% and the material validation questionnaire is 89%, which is included in the very feasible category. In assessing student responses, the average percentage was 89%, and teacher responses were 88% with very good criteria. So, the media developed is very suitable for use in learning Indonesian.
