Strangeness production in antiproton-nucleus annihilation

Abstract: Abstract. The results of the microscopic transport calculations ofp-nucleus interactions within a GiBUU model are presented. The dominating mechanism of hyperon production is the strangeness exchange processesKN → Yπ andKN → ΞK. The calculated rapidity spectra of Ξ hyperons are significantly shifted to forward rapidities with respect to the spectra of S = −1 hyperons. We argue that this shift should be a sensitive test for the possible exotic mechanisms ofp-nucleus annihilation. The production of the double Λ-h… Show more

“…On the theory side, major activities in this direction are being made by the Frankfurt-Mainz collaboration [29,30] and our own investigations. In a series of paper [24][25][26][27][28] we have been studying hyperon and hypernuclear production in proton and antiproton-induced reaction and in heavy ion collisions leading to fragmentation into light hypernuclei. In [28] we have for the first time investigated the role and possible observable effects of different YN-interaction models on the strangeness dynamics of hadron-induced reactions.…”

“…High energy hadronic reactions, providing a broad spectrum of final fragments, are a very suitable tool for investigations of strangeness in the nuclear medium. Our recent studies [10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18] of the production mechanism in the Giessen resonance model are emphasizing the role played by baryon resonances as the most important source for strangeness and hypernuclear production, at least at energies below T Lab ∼ 10 GeV. A report on our latest results on strangeness production will be found elsewhere in this volume [19].…”
