Despite recent therapeutic advances, pulmonary hypertension (PH) remains a fatal disease due to the development of right ventricular (RV) failure. At present, no RV-targeted therapies are available, and RV function is not widely considered in the preclinical assessment of new therapeutics. Several small animal models are used in the study of PH, including the classic models of exposure to either hypoxia or monocrotaline, newer combinational and genetic models, and pulmonary artery banding, a surgical model of pure RV pressure overload. These models recapitulate selected features of the structural remodelling and functional decline seen in patients and have provided valuable insight into the pathophysiology of RV failure. However, significant reversal of remodelling and improvement in RV function remains a therapeutic obstacle. Emerging animal models will provide a deeper understanding of the mechanisms governing the transition from adaptive remodelling to a failing RV, aiding the hunt for druggable molecular targets.

The method of strengthening the existing reinforced concrete suspension bridges by changing suspension system into cable – stayed- suspension system is presented in this paper. Based on a typical bridge, the analysis of the static behavior of the bridge before and after the strengthening is preformed. The results show that the bending moment of the girder is reduced obviously and the capacity of carrying load is greatly improved. The original cable system is fully utilized and can meet force requirement. It has certain theory significance and practical engineering value to the similar bridge’s strengthening.

The effects of 3,4-DHAP on hypoxic pulmonary and systemic vascular responses were studied in anaesthetized dogs. The percentage change in pulmonary vascular resistance (delta PVR %) and that in systemic vascular resistance (delta SVR %) induced by 5 min hypoxia decreased significantly. 3,4-DHAP in doses of 1 mg/kg, 3 mg/kg, and 10 mg/kg i.v. caused a decrease in delta PVR% from the control value of 47.27 +/- 22.27% to 24.62 +/- 21.76%, 18.15 +/- 18.73%, and 24.10 +/- 19.76% respectively, and a decrease in delta SVR % from the control value of 12.91 +/- 7.39 % to -0.34 +/- 12.70%, -2.11 +/- 12.76%, and -2.37 +/- 15.52 % respectively. The results showed that 3,4-DHAP could decrease the hypoxic responses of pulmonary and systemic blood vessels. But it did not change delta PVR % or delta SVR % in dose of 30 mg/kg, neither did it influence the heart rate, cardiac output or cerebral blood flow during hypoxia in all the doses used.
