“…TL-DNA alone or TL-DNA combined with TR-DNA might render cells of (Ooms et al, 1982). Also, auxins secreted by Ri transformed roots stimulate the development of roots from non-transformed cells present at the wound site or in explanted hairy root tumors (Byrne et al, 1986). PCR analysis of the four of 12 tumor-derived shoot strains showed no amplification of the expected 2.5 kbp bands, indicating that non-transformed cells were also present in the crown galls induced by A. rhizogenes and that the shoot strains were derived from those cells proliferating during cultures.…”

“…Another WHR strain, A28 1, was also examined because it was chromosomally isogenic to A348 but contained a succinamopine Ti plasmid. It was more virulent on some plant cultivars than the octopine plasmid strain, A348 (2). Insertion of Tn5 in the ipt locus (A338) had no effect on the necrotic response (Fig.…”

“…The Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer system would appear to have some advantages because soybean is a dicotyledonous plant species and thus is susceptible to Agrobacterium infection. However, infectivity tests show that not all Agrobacterium strains can readily infect soybean tissues (5,9,22). The Agrobacterium strains which have been 1212 found to be the most effective for the infection of soybean cultivars are those known as the nopaline-type, which encode for the synthesis of the novel amino acid nopaline (8).…”
