Stimulation of JNK Phosphorylation by the PTTH in Prothoracic Glands of the Silkworm, Bombyx mori

Abstract: In this study, phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) by the prothoracicotropic hormone (PTTH) was investigated in prothoracic glands (PGs) of the silkworm, Bombyx mori. Results showed that JNK phosphorylation was stimulated by the PTTH in time- and dose-dependent manners. In vitro activation of JNK phosphorylation in PGs by the PTTH was also confirmed in an in vivo experiment, in which a PTTH injection greatly increased JNK phosphorylation in PGs of day-6 last instar larvae. JNK phosphorylation caus… Show more

“…U0126 selectively inhibits MEK1/2, and thus downregulates the phosphorylation and activation of Erk1/2 (Gu et al ., 2018). In silkworm, U0126 can also inhibit the MEK/Erk signal (Fujiwara et al ., 2006a; Fujiwara et al ., 2006b; Gu et al ., 2012).…”

“…Later studies showed that p70 S6 kinase, ribosomal protein S6, and tyrosine kinase are involved in PTTH-stimulated ecdysteroidogenesis in M. sexta (Song and Gilbert, 1997;Smith et al, 2003;Rewitz et al, 2009;Lin and Gu, 2011). In addition, a member of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and the c-Jun N-terminal kinase/stressactivated protein kinase subfamilies of the mitogenactivated protein kinase (MAPKs) family were also found to be stimulated by the PTTH (Rybczynski et al, 2001;Lin and Gu, 2007;Gu et al, 2018). Moreover, we demonstrated the involvement of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/adenosine 5 0 -monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/target of rapamycin (TOR) signalling and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in PTTH-stimulated ecdysteroidogenesis in B. mori PGs (Gu et al, 2011(Gu et al, , 2012(Gu et al, , 2013Hsieh et al, 2013Hsieh et al, , 2014.…”
