Sterol metabolism. 2. The absorption and metabolism of [14C]ergosterol in the guinea pig

Abstract

I957 SUMMARYA method for the biosynthesis of [14C]ergosterol from sodium [methyl-14C]acetate in the mould Carpentete8 brefeldianum Dodge is described. The specific activity of the [14C]ergosterol obtained was 0 1-0 3 pc/mg., and the total yield of radiocarbon was 2-6 %. The specific activity of the [methyl-14C]acetate used before dilution was 38 ,uc/mg. We wish to thank the Medical Research Council for financial support.
