Stereospecific Positional Distribution of Fatty Acids of Camellia (Camellia japonica L.) Seed Oil

Abstract: The stereospecific positional distribution of fatty acids of camellia seed oil (also called camellia oil) was determined. The camellia oil was mainly composed of neutral lipids (88.2%), and the oleic acid (86.3%) was found to be a major fatty acid of neutral lipids. In the glycolipids and phospholipids, the oleic acid was also found to be a major fatty acid at 62.5% and 54.2%, respectively. The oleic acid was distributed abundantly in all sn-1, 2, and 3 positions. It was found that the oleic acid was present m… Show more

“…Camellia oil was the most efficient oleic acid source for OPO production with both palm oil and lard. The oleic acid content at the sn-1 and 3 positions in camellia oil was 80.4% (10). Values for olive oil and chufa oil were 72 and 60.8%, respectively (9,24).…”

“…As a comparison, the oleic acid in the sn-1, 2, and 3 positions of C. japonica L. oil were 66.0%, 93.6% and 94.7%, respectively (Noh and Yoon, 2012). For other high-oleic acid vegetable oils, such as Chufa tuber oil, the major fatty acid composition of the oil was 15.4% palmitic, 65.5% oleic, and 16.2% linoleic, while the major fatty acid composition on its sn-2 position was 75.1% oleic and 23.1% linoleic (Kim et al, 2007).…”
