Abstract:The kidney maintains body fluid homeostasis by reabsorbing essential compounds and excreting waste. Proximal tubule cells, crucial for renal reabsorption of a range of sugars, ions, and amino acids, are highly susceptible to damage, leading to pathologies necessitating dialysis and kidney transplants.
