Abstract: Leishmania, the dixenous trypanosomatid parasites, are the causative agents of leishmaniasis currently divided into four subgenera:Leishmania,Viannia,Sauroleishmania,and the recently describedMundinia, consisting of six species distributed sporadically all over the world infecting humans and/or animals.
