Stenotrophomonas terrae sp. nov. and Stenotrophomonas humi sp. nov., two nitrate-reducing bacteria isolated from soil

Abstract: Three Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, nitrate-reducing isolates (R-32746, R-32768T and R-32729T) were obtained from soil. Analysis of repetitive sequence-based PCR showed that the three isolates represented two different strains. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and DNA–DNA hybridization placed them within the genus Stenotrophomonas and revealed that they were genotypically different from each other and from all recognized Stenotrophomonas species. Analysis of the fatty acid composition and physio… Show more

“…D-arabinose, L-arabinose, D-fucose and sucrose). These results are in good agreement with previously reported data and supported the affiliation of the new isolate to the genus Stenotrophomonas (Palleroni & Bradbury, 1993;Finkmann et al, 2000;Assih et al, 2002;Heylen et al, 2007). Phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics that differentiate strain MJ03…”

“…DSame results were obtained using the methods described by Tindall et al (2007). dOpposite results were obtained by Heylen et al (2007). The major cellular fatty acids are iso-C 15 : 0 , iso-C 11 : 0 , iso-C 14 : 0 , iso-C 17 : 1 v9c, iso-C 11 : 0 3-OH and iso-C 13 : 0 3-OH.…”

“…T is similar to those of Stenotrophomonas species (Assih et al, 2002;Wolf et al, 2002;Heylen et al, 2007). Strain ICB 89 T shows morphological and biochemical characteristics typical of the genus Stenotrophomonas and it can be clearly differentiated from other members of the genera Stenotrophomonas and Pseudomonas by several phenotypic properties.…”

“…Endophytic microbes are extensively studied for their ability to support plant growth through nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, production of ACC deaminase, IAA production, antifungal compounds, HCN, siderophore, etc. Many E.H............K...A......E.F........... .|....|....|....|....|....|....|....|....|.. .M.............................................
