Stellate Plasmonic Exosomes for Penetrative Targeting Tumor NIR-II Thermo-Radiotherapy

Abstract: Multifunctional gold (Au)-based nanomaterials with high atomic number (symbol Z) and strong absorbance in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II) property are emerging as promising candidates for tumor thermo-radiotherapy. The main limitations of applying Au-based nanomaterials to biomedical studies include the absence of active tumor-targeting ability, penetrating efficiency, and stability. In this study, we present a novel type of tumor cell-derived stellate plasmonic exosomes (TDSP-Exos) for penetrative ta… Show more

“…Various approaches have been devised to either alleviate or leverage such intratumoral hypoxia 20 - 22 . Magnetic hyperthermia and photothermal therapy approaches increase the intra-tumoral temperature and blood flow, thus improving oxygen delivery to the tumor site 23 - 25 . Tirapazamine, in contrast, is a prodrug that is activated under hypoxic conditions and can be administered as a complementary approach together with radiotherapy to treat hypoxic tumors 26 , 27 .…”

“…An effective advancement has been made in the detection and cure of carcinoma, however, cancer is a lethal disease across the globe [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ], and chemotherapy is still frequently used for the treatment of carcinoma in the clinical field [ 3 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ], although it has adverse and harmful side effects, i.e., multidrug resistance [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ]. Therefore, it is needed to find out new effective drugs against carcinoma with relatively fewer side effects.…”

“…Cancer, as one of the primary diseases affecting human health, has a profound impact on human life, and the patient's condition becomes due to the rapid propagation and diffusion of cancer cells, and the lower efficacy of the currently used chemotherapeutic agents (1)(2)(3)(4)(5). However, cancer cells are very sensitive to reactive oxygen species (ROS), increased ROS levels can cause cell redox imbalance, thus resulting in permanent damage to the orgate and, eventually, apoptosis (6,7).…”
