Steam power plant configuration, design, and control

Abstract: This article provides an overview of fossil‐fuel power plant (FFPP) configuration, design and especially, the control technology, both the conventional and the advanced technologies. First, a brief introduction of FFPP fundamentals and configurations are presented, followed by the description of conventional PID‐based control system in the FFPPs and its short‐comings. As the major part of this writing, different advanced control strategies and applications are reported, with their significant features outlined… Show more

“…The coal mass flow rate and the turbine governor valve are selected as the manipulated variables (MVs). These four variables are in the upper most layer of CFPP control [37]. Regarding the PCC system control, the CO2 capture level and the re-boiler temperature are considered as the most central CVs [24]- [31].…”

“…One of converting method is the steam power system or Rankine cycle. The Rankine cycle have range thermal efficiency of 33% to 45% but it still depended on main steam pressure, main steam temperature and fuel used [1] [2]. The range of operation pressure and temperature of steam power plant of 10 kg/cm 2 to critical pressure and 250 0 C to 650 0 C respectively [3].…”

“…It is produced when carbon compounds are burned in the presence of oxygen that emits thermal radiation, creating the “greenhouse effect.” Distributed power generation system with diesel engine (DE)‐generator has been proven to be handy and dependable in meeting the dynamic domestic electricity demand. Wu et al have provided information and general overview of fossil‐fuel power plant design, configuration, and control technology; moreover, next generation FFPP control technologies are presented.…”
