Steady maneuver envelope evaluation for aircraft with control surface failures

Abstract: A critical prerequisite of researches in the field of fault-tolerant flight control and planning is flight envelope evaluation. In order to be in compliance with path planning or trajectory generation under abnormal conditions, steady maneuver envelope is defined and evaluated. This envelope provides a complete set of equilibrium flight states under a given set of control and state limits awkward. We propose a numerical procedure using continuation technique to directly compute the boundary of the envelope, in… Show more

“…In Ref. (19), a similar problem has been addressed in which, instead of trimming every steady state point, boundary of the impaired aircraft’s flight envelope is directly computed using the continuation technique. Specifically, the approach of computing 3D maneuvering flight envelopes of an impaired aircraft by evaluating all trim points in a point-by-point schema was introduced in Ref.…”

“…This idea was first introduced in 2002 in [29], and was followed in many other studies such as [5, 6, 25, 27, and 28]. Alternative methods to evaluate flight envelope include utilizing bifurcation analysis [30], and continuation technique [31] where instead of trimming every steady state point, boundary of the impaired aircraft's flight envelope is directly computed using continuation technique.…”
