Status of the SPIRAL2 injector commissioning

Abstract: The SPIRAL2 injector, installed in its tunnel, is currently under commissioning at GANIL, Caen, France. The injector is composed of two low energy beam transport lines: one is dedicated to the light ion beam production, the other to the heavy ions. The first light ion beam, created by a 2.45 GHz electron cyclotron resonance ion source, has been successfully produced in December 2014. The first beam of the PHOENIX V2 18 GHz heavy ion source was analyzed on 10 July 2015. A status of the SPIRAL2 injector commissi… Show more

“…Next, a low energy beam transfer line (LEBT) injects the beam into a radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ). An interconnection between the existing M/Q=3 and the new M/Q=7 injectors LEBT will allow to inject ions from the existing PHOENIX V3 ECRIS [2] toward the new RFQ. The input energy required in the RFQ is E ≥ 10 keV/Q.…”

“…For S3, the oven will be mounted in the Phoenix V3 ECRIS [6] while on GANIL-Cyclotrons, it will be used with the ECR4 ion sources. The oven must operate at least 2 or 3 weeks without any breakup and the oven head must be removable in order to be replaced quickly in operation.…”

“…This work is dedicated to the study of a low temperature metallic oven dedicated to calcium beam production at the SPIRAL2 facility at GANIL, France [1,2]. The motivation of the study is to better understand the physics and chemistry of such an oven with the ultimate goal to improve the global conversion efficiency of rare and expensive isotope atom (like 48 Ca) to an ion beam in Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS).…”
