Our study focused on two species of fishes: the Ozark Cavefish Troglichthys rosae 45 , 46 and Salem Plateau Cavefish Typhlichthys eigenmanni 47 and five species of cave crayfishes: Benton County Cave Crayfish Cambarus aculabrum 48 , 49 , Bristly Cave Crayfish C. setosus 50 , 51 , Delaware County Cave Crayfish C. subterraneus 52 , 53 , Oklahoma Cave Crayfish C. tartarus 54 , 55 , and Caney Mountain Cave Crayfish Orconectes stygocaneyi 56 . Although little is known about many of these species, descriptions are quite similar due to convergent evolution (e.g., cryptic behavior, habitat generalists, albinistic, and reduced eyes).…”
