Status and Constrain for Mechanization of Rice Harvesting System in Bangladesh

Abstract: To know the position, problems and suggestion of harvest mechanization of rice, the study conducted in 21 upzillas under seven regions (Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Comilla, Bogra, Rajshahi and Rangpur) based on different agro-climatic condition and cropping intensity and 126 farmers participated in the interview. For collecting data, a structured questionnaire was used and statistical analysis of the collected data was carried out. In study area, the average cultivable area was 225 to 1239 decimal (1 decimal = … Show more

“…This task is done manually in developing and less-developed countries, utilizing tools like sickles, knives, scythes, and cutters. Conversely, developed nations rely on combined harvesters or machinery for most of their harvesting needs [ 58 ]. The most significant determinants of harvest losses are the method of operation and the prevailing weather conditions ( Table 5 ).…”

“…Grains are then lost as spillage during this operation, and losses during winnowing can be as high as 4% of the total production. Currently, some communities utilize antiquated winnowing baskets, which depend heavily on natural wind for cleaning, but have limited efficiency in separating rice from debris (Nath et al, 2017).…”

“…Rice is a principal staple food of Bangladesh and meets 80% of food demand [17] [18] [19] [20]. Urea is an emerging necessary nitrogen fertilizer for rice production and in countries, 80% urea (prilled) is used by the rice [15].…”

“…Wohab et al [6] noted that a mechanical device is necessary to increase the nitrogen application efficiency and minimize tedious labour work. Nath et al [20] mentioned that for sustainable rice production the mechanized farming in utmost necessary, especially fertilizer application. There are a few types of research on mechanizing nitrogen fertiliser application in wetland, but no one is efficient.…”
