StreszczenieCel pracy: Metody oparte na dodatniej liniowej zależności pomiędzy wzrostem a kośćmi długimi są najczęściej wykorzystywane w celu szacowania wzrostu przyżyciowego w antropologii sądowej. Uważa się, że długość mostka oraz jego części może stanowić akceptowalną alternatywę w szacowaniu wzrostu w sytuacji, gdy brakuje kości długich lub zostały one uszkodzone. Materiał i metody: Celem niniejszej metaanalizy jest ocena ilościowa dowodów dotyczących zależności pomiędzy długością mostka lub części mostka a wzrostem ciała. Przeanalizowano dziewięć badań obejmujących łącznie 1118 kości mostka. Wyniki: Wykazano, że długość mezosternum (rękojeści wraz z trzonem) wykazuje najwyższą korelację ze wzrostem; 53,5% oraz 55,42% odpowiednio dla kobiet i mężczyzn. Drugim najlepszym parametrem jest całkowita długość mostka, dla której korelacja wynosi 44,3% dla mężczyzn oraz 55% dla kobiet. Analiza podgrup z badań autopsyjnych wykazała nawet wyższą korelację, wynoszącą 58,2%, dla długości mezosternum. Najsłabszą korelację wykazano dla długości rękojeści oraz trzonu. Z wyjątkiem długości ciała dla kobiet wykazano wyższą korelację niż dla mężczyzn pomiędzy wszystkimi innymi wartościami długości części mostka a wzrostem. Wnioski: Chociaż długość mezosternum okazuje się parametrem najsilniej skorelowanym ze wzrostem, wszystkie długości mostka należy interpretować z ostrożnością przy szacowaniu wzrostu ciała. Stosunkowo niskie wartości uzyskanych korelacji zmuszają do postawienia pytania dotyczącego wiarygodności i nakazują ograniczyć wykorzystywanie długości mostka w sytuacjach, gdy dostępne są kości długie. Konieczne są dalsze badania na większych próbkach pochodzących z różnych populacji oraz wzięcie pod uwagę stanu połączenia części mostka.Słowa kluczowe: mostek, wzrost, metaanaliza, korelacja. AbstractAim of the study: Methods based on the positive linear relationship existing between stature and long bones are most commonly used to estimate living stature in forensic anthropology. The length of the sternum and its parts has been advanced as a plausible alternative to estimate stature when such long bones are missing or damaged. Material and methods:This meta-analysis aims to quantify evidence on the correlation between the sternum/sternal parts length and stature. Nine studies were included with 1118 sternal bones. Results: Analyses showed that the length of the meso-sternum (manubrium + body) yielded the best correlation with stature; 53.5% and 55.42% for men and women, respectively. The second best variable is the total sternal length with correlations of 44.3% and 55% for men and women, respectively. The unusual height of Montenegrin inhabitants of the highland region has been recognised by European anthropologists more than 100 years ago. In light of rather sparse recent scientifi c literature, the purpose of this research study was to examine the body height in both sexes of Montenegrin adults nowadays. Furthermore, the relationship between arm span and body height, which varies in diff erent ethnic and racial groups, was used as an alternative to estimating the body height for some groups of the population. The nature and scope of this study analyses 100 adolescents (51 men, aged 18,31±0,70 and 49 women, aged 18,35±0,69) from Danilovgrad. The anthropometric measurements were taken according to the protocol of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). Means and standard deviations were obtained. A comparison of means of body heights and arm spans within and between the sexes were carried out using a t-test. The relationships between body height and arm span were determined using simple correlation coeffi cients and their 95% confi dence interval. A linear regression analysis was then performed to examine the extent to which arm span can reliably predict body height UvodCrna Gora je zemlja u jugoistočnoj Evropi koja leži na obali Jadranskog mora. Graniči se na istoku i sjeveroistoku sa Srbijom, na zapadu i sjeverozapadu sa Hrvatskom i Bosnom i Hercegovinom i na jugoistoku sa Albanijom. Na jugozapadu je Jadransko more dijeli od Italije. Glavni, a ujedno i najveći grad je Podgorica, dok Cetinje ima status prijestonice. Crna Gora je postala nezavisna država na referendumu koji je održan 21. maja 2006 godine i tada je izašla iz državne zajednice sa susjednom Srbijom, što je predstavljalo i poslednje rasparčavanje nekadašnje Jugoslavije. Crna Gora obuhvata površi-nu od 13.812 km². Zbog svoje vrlo neobične i može se reći veoma karakteristične reljefne strukture nudi i zimski i ljetnji turizam, jer izlazi na Jadransko more, a posjeduje i veliki broj planina od kojih su najpoznatije Lovćen i Durmitor. Kao jedno od najprepoznatljivijih obilježija Crne Gore ističe se i rijeka Tara. Prema popisu iz 2011 godine populacija Crne Gore je iznosila 620,029 stanovnika od čega su 50.61% žene, a 49.39% muškarci. Osnovnu etičku strukturu Crne Gore čine: 44.98% Crnogorci, 28.73% Srbi, 8.65% Bošnjaci i 4.91% Albanci Geografski gledano dijeli se na tri regije i to: južnu, srednju i sjevernu regiju. Uzorci korišteni u ovom istraživanju prikupljeni su u opštini Danilovgrad. Danilovgrad je smješten u srednjoj regiji. Gradsko naselje Danilovgrad, nalazi se na desnoj obali rijeke Zete. Prema poslednjem popisu iz aprila 2011. u njemu živi 6.852 stanovnika ili 37.09 %, stanovnika opštine, dok na seoskom području živi 11.620 ili 62.91 % stanovništva.Dinarski Alpi prepoznati su kao područje sa visokom populacijom od evropskih antropologa prije više od 100 godina

Morphometric analysis of variation in the sternum with sex and age

Age and sex-related variations in sternum morphology may affect the thoracic injury tolerance. Male and female sternum size and shape variation was characterized for ages 0-100 from landmarks collected from 330 computed tomography scans. Homologous landmarks were analyzed using Procrustes superimposition to produce age and sex-specific functions of 3D-sternum morphology representing the combined size and shape variation and the isolated shape variation. Significant changes in the combined size and shape variation and isolated shape variation of the sternum were found to occur with age in both sexes. Sternal size increased from birth through age 30 and retained a similar size for ages 30-100. The manubrium expanded laterally from birth through age 30, becoming wider in relation to the sternal body. In infancy, the manubrium was 1.1-1.2 times the width of the sternal body and this width ratio increased to 1.6-1.8 for adults. The manubrium transformed from a circular shape in infancy to an oval shape in early childhood. The distal sternal body became wider in relation to the proximal sternal body from birth through age 30 and retained this characteristic throughout adulthood. The most dramatic changes in sternum morphology occur in childhood and young adulthood when the sternum is undergoing ossification. The lesser degree of ossification in the pediatric sternum may be partly responsible for the prevalence of thoracic organ injuries as opposed to thoracic skeletal injuries in pediatrics. Sternum fractures make up a larger portion of thoracic injury patterns in adults with fully ossified sternums. The lack of substantial size or shape changes in the sternum from age 30-100 suggests that the increased incidence of sternal fracture seen in the elderly may be due to cortical thickness or bone mineral density changes in the sternum as opposed to morphological changes.
