“…Intention or "ataxic" tremor, a frequent and disabling symptom of MS (Abb & Schaltenbrand, 1956;Calne & Klawans, 1977), i s one of the manifestations of a lesion to the cerebellum andor its ouflow tracts (Giesser, 1985;Calne & Klawans, 1977). Clinicopathologic correlates together with observations on animals subjected to experimental lesions (Mettler, 1955) suggest that the intention tremor of MS derives from a lesion of the cerbello-dentato-rubral pathway caudal to the red nucleus (Calne & Klawans, 1977).…”

“…The suggested causal relationship between MS and epilepsy has not been proved or disproved, although the general view is that the risk of epilepsy is increased. In most publications, the prevalence of epilepsy varies from 1-4% (Muller, 1949;Williams et al, 1952;Abb and Schaltenrand, 1956;Drake and Macrae, 1961;Kurtzke, 1970;Cendrowski and Majkowski, 1972;Elian and Dean, 1977), but figures up to 10% have been presented (Fuglsang-Frederiksen and Thygesen, 1952). These figures may be misleading in that, with one exception (Elian and Dean, 1977), they are based on clinical patient series.…”

“…It occurred only in 1.4% in the study of Muller (1949), in 3.8% in the cases of Abb and Schaltenbrand (1956) and in 6% of 812 cases in the study of Poser (1978), when hearing was tested clinically. The incidence of auditory dysfunction may be much higher when hearing is tested under ex perimental conditions; for a review see Noffsinger et al (1972).…”
