Statistically Thinned Array Antennas for Simultaneous Multibeam Applications

Abstract: Statistically thinned array antennas are usually employed to form single-beam radiation patterns. In this work, the possibility to adopt such type of antennas to obtain multiple-beam patterns is successfully explored. In particular, two schemes are proposed and compared. In the first one, multiplebeam patterns are realized by considering each beam corresponding to a different feeding network. In the second scheme, multiple-beam behavior is achieved by a single feeding network. A key question addressed in this … Show more

“…In future developments, the concept of fractals will be further exploited to enhance the miniaturization level of MA-based sensors. Additionally, the proposed MA absorber will be integrated with reconfigurable materials or components, such as PIN diodes, to implement switchable functions like absorption/polarization conversion [16], which can increase sensing capabilities, even exploiting a random distribution of elements, such as that adopted in the various design schemes for statistical arrays [71][72][73][74][75][76][77].…”

“…Recently, a rigorous and complete statistical description of STAs has been provided in [21]. Also, STAs are usually employed for single-beam patterns, whereas in [22] it is shown that STAs can be employed to generate multi-beam patterns.…”

“…The focus beam synthesis method based on the genetic algorithm, proposed in [26] to optimize the frequency offset increment, can synthesize single-point and multipoint transmission beams, and can also suppress sidelobes. FDA can also use adaptive [27], multibeam [28], broadband applications [29], and reconfigurable [30] thinned array methods to reduce sidelobe levels and reduce interference.…”
