Static Magnetic Field Accelerates Diabetic Wound Healing by Facilitating Resolution of Inflammation

Abstract: Impaired wound healing is commonly encountered in patients with diabetes mellitus, which may lead to severe outcomes such as amputation, if untreated timely. Macrophage plays a critical role in the healing process including the resolution phase. Although magnetic therapy is known to improve microcirculation, its effect on wound healing remains uncertain. In the present study, we found that 0.6 T static magnetic field (SMF) significantly accelerated wound closure and elevated reepithelialization and revasculari… Show more

“…The research on the use of HiSMF technology in magnetotherapy in clinics has been increasing due to its useful effects in many diseases, including cancers, edema, inflammation, wounds healing, and bone disorders [7][8][9][10]26]. Due to its safety and noninvasiveness, magnetotherapy has been approved as an instructive novel strategy by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) [16].…”

“…Currently, the use of MRI with 7 T in clinical diagnosis has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) [6]. At the same time, the high-intensity magnetotherapy, a noninvasion approach, has been applied in the treatment of various diseases including osteoporosis [7], rheumatoid arthritis [8], diabetic wound healing [9], and cancer [10]. Therefore, the application of HiSMF medical equipment is megatrends in the near future.…”

“…The MF was reported to upregulate antiinflammatory gene expression via activation of STAT6 and suppression of STAT1 in macrophages, thus facilitating the resolution of inflammation and wound healing (10) ( Table 1). Therefore, an SMF has also been used to treat inflammatory diseases as an alternative therapy (10,38,39).…”

“…In recent years, more and more studies show that MFs have some effects on the immune system. Wyszkowska et al report that low-frequency MF exposure could significantly increase the plasma inflammatory parameters in rats, and other types of MFs contribute to the anti-inflammatory and tissue repair processes (9,10). The effect of MFs on immune responses and regulation has already gained more attention from various scientific communities.…”
