Static and Dynamic Magnetic Properties of Sputtered Fe–Ga Thin Films

Abstract: We present measurements of the static and dynamic properties of polycrystalline iron-gallium films, ranging from 20 nm to 80 nm and sputtered from an Fe0.8Ga0.2 target. Using a broadband ferromagnetic resonance setup in a wide frequency range, perpendicular standing spin-wave resonances were observed with the external static magnetic field applied in-plane. The field corresponding to the strongest resonance peak at each frequency is used to determine the effective magnetization, the g-factor and the Gilbert da… Show more

“…For the PP case we obtain g = 2.0564 ± 0.0007 and 4πM e f f = 13.821 ± 0.004 kOe, and for the IP case g = 2.14 ± 0.01 and 4πM e f f = 11.7 ± 0.2 kOe. The PP value of 4πM e f f = 13.821 kOe is higher than previous bulk measurements 7 but is similar to values obtained in thin films 8 . The inset shows a close-up of the IP data at low frequencies, from whence it is clear that a discrepancy exists between the IP data and the fit to Eq.…”

“…Taking into account the experimental value inferred for the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, K FM = 3·10 6 erg/cm 3 , and M FM = 1100 emu cm −3 26 , it is inferred a Q of 0.3 in our samples and therefore, stripes are expected above a critical thickness. Considering A ex = 1.7·10 −6 erg cm −1 from the literature 22 , 23 , 40 , and using Eq. ( 5 ), it is obtained an experimental t cr of 44 nm.…”

“…1(c) by lines [29]. This allows us to attribute unambiguously the bands in the measured spectra in this (Fe,Ga) film to magnon modes [30]. It is interesting that the FFT obtained in a temporal window which starts 600 ps after the pump pulse [red line in Fig.…”
