State of the Art on Developments of (Bio)Sensors and Analytical Methods for Rifamycin Antibiotics Determination

Abstract: This review summarizes the literature data reported from 2000 up to the present on the development of various electrochemical (voltammetric, amperometric, potentiometric and photoelectrochemical), optical (UV-Vis and IR) and luminescence (chemiluminescence and fluorescence) methods and the corresponding sensors for rifamycin antibiotics analysis. The discussion is focused mainly on the foremost compound of this class of macrocyclic drugs, namely rifampicin (RIF), which is a first-line antituberculosis agent de… Show more

“…UV–vis spectroscopy was used to characterise the synthesised rifaximin, Cu, and CuO nanoparticle. The UV–vis spectrum of rifaximin displays an absorption peak at 330 nm [ 43 ], while Cu shows an absorption peak at 253 nm [ 44 ]. The absorption peak at 230 nm, attributed to the core-shell structure of the CuO nanoparticle, may be responsible for the reduced plasmon band in the bimetallic nanoparticle [ 45 ].…”

“…Table 3 illustrates all thermodynamic values of ΔH*, ΔG*, and ΔS* for both the oxidation and reduction process of I,II oxidation peaks and I,II reduction peaks in activation stat for RF NPs in KCl solution, the enthalpy values of oxidation-reduction current peaks have the same positive values of the oxidation peak (13.283 and 13.481 kJ•mol -1 •K -1 ) and reduction peaks (9.261 and 9.907 kJ•mol -1 •K -1 ), although, the entropy values of oxidation and reduction peaks have the same negative values with the correct reaction, while the gibes energy values have different behavior in both oxidation-reduction reaction of RF NPs [24][25][26][27].…”

“…Compared with the other three methods, fluorescence-based methods do not depend on complex and expensive instrument, do not need large amount of eluent, and do not require rigorous pH, temperature and oxygen conditions [ 8 ]. Moreover, fluorescence-based method often has comparable level of sensitivity and lowest detection limit (LOD) with the former three methods, commonly in μM to nM concentration [ 9 ]. The high selectivity is another advantage.…”
