State-of-the-art in integrated vehicle health management

Abstract: Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) is the collection of data relevant to the present and future performance of a vehicle system and its transformation into information that can be used to support operational decisions. This design and operation concept embraces an integration of sensors, communication technologies and artificial intelligence in order to provide vehicle-wide abilities to diagnose problems and recommend solutions. This paper aims to report the state-of-the-art of IVHM research by presen… Show more

“…Since the sensors are small, they can be embedded or on-surface installed without giving a tremendous weight penalty. The main aircraft manufacturers, such as Boeing (Benedettini et al, 2009) and Airbus, are gearing toward implementing this technology as the material structures become more advanced.…”

“…This application is focused on the IVHM system, as to ensure that system health status complies with the standard. [7] Assert that the IVHM system has been so pronouncing and effectively used in the aircraft system. However, the IVHM system can also be used in some other vehicle such as the land vehicle, helicopters, and watercraft [8].…”

“…In OLM, onboard aircraft sensors gather structural loading information to identify damage and fatigue (most often postflight) in order to reduce maintenance costs and increase reliability [2,3]. At the systems level, the integrated vehicle health management (IVHM) field involves frameworks that incorporate multiple sources of operational data, physics-based models, and prognosis techniques [4,5]. Modern IVHM architectures have been developed at NASA [6] and the Department of Defense [7].…”
