Scissor frame structures (SFS) have attracted significant attention due to their flexibility of deployment and stiffens once fully deployed. These features benefit prefabrication and transportation over traditional frame structures, with potential for modular structure implementation. However, current research often neglects structural analysis, focusing on geometrical and kinematic designs. This oversight, combined with critical load conditions at the locking mechanism linkage, risk underdesigning the SFS and leading to potential structural failure. This study conducted load testing on four SFS specimens with varying cross-sections and heights. Results were discussed based on the measured strain, displacement, and validation with FEM modelling. Analysis shows that despite the flexibility inherent in their pivotal points and multi-plane connections, the SFS exhibits linear behavior under external loads within the elastic range, with symmetrical results akin to single-plane action. Furthermore, three SFS FEM models, developed using SCIA Engineer software, were validated and revealed that loading on the locking mechanism linkage severely impacts structural efficiency. The capacities of the SFS specimens, calculated based on measured critical stress and stiffness, highlight the diverse effects of scissor depth and cross-section on SFS structural behaviour. This paper provides essential experimental data for SFS, assisting engineers in precise structural analysis and assessment.

A New Design of the 3D Deployable Space Antenna Structure

Communication and energy supply are critical in different sophisticated space missions in the aerospace industry. However, rockets have limited launch space and cannot carry such a massive support system. A space antenna deployable structure based on the scissor element and ring truss structure is proposed to overcome this challenge. This research studies the basic unit and its connection structure separately to investigate the mobility of the deployable structure. The connection structure and the basic units have one degree of freedom. Subsequently, a deployable ring truss system for satellite antennas is demonstrated. The kinematic models of the basic units and common deployment mechanisms have been constructed to demonstrate the mechanism deployment performance. The designed deployable structure can further increase the mechanism’s deployment area by splicing multiple basic ring deployable structures. This newly designed space antenna deployable structure has greater flexibility and can effectively increase the deployment area of the ring truss.

Nowadays, more than the workforce is needed to transport heavy tonnage loads. So, movable scissors platforms are used when it is desired to transport loads from one location to another and lift them to a certain level. In this study, for the first time, the concept design and prototype production of the new generation scissor lift platform, which has a hydraulically assisted and automation-managed steering control system that will enable loads up to 6 tons of capacity to be transported and delivered to the appropriate height with precise control, has been carried out within Önder Group Inc. Design Center as a domestic product. Within the scope of the study, an automation-controlled hydraulic steering system was developed, unlike the manual steering control system used in equivalent models. This way, easy driving and control of high-tonnage mobile scissor lifts have been achieved. In addition, with the innovative linear bearing hydraulically driven movable upper table design, the materials placed on the table can be moved left and right precisely without moving the platform, thus providing ease of material assembly and time-saving. Within the scope of the study, static strength calculations were made using finite element analysis of the designed system. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that the stresses occurring in the system under service conditions affect the components homogeneously and that no plastic deformation will occur in the entire system. Thus, the design can be used safely.
