Abstract:The effect of orbital momentum in the strong field ionization of a hydrogen atom is considered. When the atom is in the 2P state an asymmetrical distribution in the transverse velocity v T , similar to the Collins effect in quark fragmentation, is predicted : ⟨v T ⟩ points in the direction of E × ⟨L⟩. However, the Stark efffect produces oscillations of the average orbital angular momentum ⟨L T ⟩, therefore of ⟨v T ⟩.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
