Abstract. Stark widths (W) and shifts (d) of the astrophysically very important six (279.0777, 279.5528, 279.7998, 280.2705, 292.8633 and 293.6510 nm) singly ionized magnesium (Mg II) spectral lines in helium, oxygen and argon-helium plasmas have been measured at electron temperatures between 30 000 and 52 300 K and electron densities between 1.2 × 10 23 and 1.65 × 10 23 m −3 . They are the first experimental results obtained at electron temperatures higher than 20 000 K. A linear, low-pressure, pulsed arc has been used as an optically thin plasma source. The magnesium atoms, as impurities in the driving gases, have been introduced by erosion from the pure magnesium bands fixed on the discharge electrodes. Our measured Stark width and shift values have been compared to the existing experimental and theoretical data. We have found a good agreement with W and d values calculated by the semiclassical perturbation formalism (SCPF).

Abstract. Using the relative line intensity ratios method between transitions that belong to the same multiplet in the Ar III (4s − 4p, 4s − 4p and 4p − 4d transitions) and Ar IV (4s − 4p and 4s − 4p transitions) spectra, some of the existing transition probability values (A) have been controlled. On the basis of the confirmed A values in Ar III (328.585 nm, 330.188 nm, 331.125 nm, 333.613 nm and 334.472 nm) and in Ar IV (280.944 nm and 278.896 nm) spectra two A values in Ar III and seven A values in Ar IV spectra have been determined, for the first time, relatively to the confirmed A values. Beside, some of the existing theoretical A data have been corrected, according to our experimentally observed relative line intensity ratio values. Measurements have been performed by using the linear low pressure pulsed arc, as an optically thin plasma source, operated in argon-helium mixture.

Abstract. Stark widths (W) and shifts (d) of the six astrophysically important 285.212, 383.230, 383.829, 516.732, 517.268, and 518.360 nm neutral magnesium (Mg I) spectral lines in the 3s 2 1 S−3p 1 P 0 , 3p 3 P 0 −3d 3 D and 3p 3 P 0 −4s 3 S transitions have been measured in laboratory helium plasma at about 50 000 K electron temperature and 1 × 10 23 m −3 electron density. They represent the first measured values and, also, the first experimental W and d data in the mentioned transitions. Using the relative line intensity ratios of the lines in the mentioned transitions we have obtained the ratios of corresponding transition probability values (Einstein's A values). They represent the first experimental data based on the analysis of the Mg I emission spectral lines. We have found agreement with theoretical transition probability ratios tabulated by NIST.
