“…Because different methodologies and development phases (larvae, juvenile and adults) were used in previous estimations of N. simplex biomass production rates, e.g. using only preserved krill samples (Lavaniegos 1995, Gómez-Gutiérrez et al 1996, De Silva-Dávila & Palomares-García 1998, De Silva-Dávila et al 2002, it is also difficult to compare biomass production on both sides of the Baja California peninsula. A table summarizing all previous N. simplex body growth estimations is shown in De Silva- Dávila et al (2002).…”

In the Gulf of California, we estimated a total annual juvenile and adult biomass production rate (body growth, MPR, and EPR) of 71 mg DW m −3 yr ) (Gómez-Gutiérrez et al 1996).…”

“…Lavaniegos (1995) made the only study that simultaneously estimated these three components of N. simplex's secondary productivity. Body growth rate had been most recently estimated for this species (De Silva-Dá vila and Palomares-García, 1998;De Silva-Dá vila et al, 2002;Gó mez-Gutié rrez et al, 1996). Several studies have shown that Nyctiphanes female reproduction accounts for nearly 2% of total secondary production (Hosie and Ritz, 1983;Lavaniegos, 1995), although now it is known that this proportion of energy is close to 7% (Gó mez-Gutié rrez and Robinson, 2005).…”
