Standardized full-field electroretinography in rabbits

Abstract: We present a procedure for full-field ERG recording in rabbits, based on the human ERG standards published by the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV). Following initial pilot experiments, six animals aged 3 months and 11 animals between 1 and 2 years were investigated. All animals displayed well detectable and reproducible separate cone and rod responses under appropriate stimulus conditions. The b-wave was smaller in young animals than in old, but there were no similar diffe… Show more

“…Standardized full-field electroretinography (ERG) (slightly modified for rabbit ERG 53 ) was assessed on three occasions prior to treatment and on three occasions during treatment (2 months, analysis system (Nicolet Biomedical Instruments, Madison Wisconsin) as described previously. [52][53] , The examinations were conducted according to the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) standards.…”

“…We also wanted to explore cellular mechanisms behind any change in PKC alpha expression, and if possible relate such change to GFAP expression. To this end, we have used standardized protocols for full-field ERG and mfERG before and after treatment, combined with PKC alpha and GFAP immunohistochemistry as well as PKC alpha real-time PCR [10,11].…”
