Standard of Practice for the Interventional Management of Isolated Iliac Artery Aneurysms

Abstract: Isolated iliac artery aneurysms are uncommon, comprising less than 2% of all abdominal aneurysmal disease. Although they have a fairly innocuous natural history, when they have attained a large size they carry a significant risk of rupture. Rupture is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Therefore, an early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Over the last decade, interventional treatment options have become established alternatives to open surgical repair. These guidelines aim to review the p… Show more

“…Endovascular treatment of IAAs in emergency situations has emerged as an alternative to open surgical repair and is particularly advantageous for elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. [5] The overall incidence of perioperative and delayed complications varies from 12 to 20% following endovascular intervention, and the most common complications are buttock claudication, graft occlusion/kinking, endoleakage, colonic ischemia, access site complications, and distal atheroembolization. [6,7] We observed none of these complications in our patient during the six months of follow-up.…”

“…Сви-детельством тому работа R. Uberoi и соавт. [11], где на ос-новании анализа более 60 источников литературы обоб-щен современный опыт диагностики и лечения АПА. От-мечен высокий риск разрыва АПА, а значит, показания к оперативному вмешательству возникают уже при диаме-тре ПВА более 30-35 мм.…”

“…The prevalence of solitary iliac artery aneurysms (IAAs) is approx. 0.03% and rare compared to aortic aneurysms [1], [5]. The frequency of other IALs is unknown, but their occasional appearance in the literature suggests their reasonably low occurrence [3], [4], [6], [7].…”

“…Iliac Arterial Lesions (IALs) are caused by various pathologies, including aneurysms, dissections, arteriovenous (AV) fistulas, pseudoaneurysms, and traumatic or atraumatic perforations [1], [2], [3], [4]. The prevalence of solitary iliac artery aneurysms (IAAs) is approx.…”
