Standard Enthalpies of Formation of Neodymium(III) and Erbium(III) Succinates and Malates

Abstract: The enthalpies of solution of neodymium(III) and erbium(III) succinates and malates in the system HCl . 100H 2 O were determined and used to calculate the standard enthalpies of formation of these salts. The available information on the enthalpies of formation of complexes of rare-earth metals with dicarboxylic acids is contradictory and insufficient [1,2]. Previously we determined [2] standard enthalpies of formation for lanthanum(III), samarium(III), and holmium(III) succinates. In the present work we have st… Show more

“…The rare earth elements and the transition metal ions are reported to form complexes with malic acid. 19,[22][23][24] The gel obtained as an intermediate in our synthesis method is very hygroscopic in nature and therefore it is very difficult to dry the gel and fix the exact formula of the complex formed between the metal ions and the organic moieties.
