The research analyzed the growth of stand-up comedy in Indonesia, which had developed into a new trend or popular culture and a new creative business that produced skilled and well-known comics. Furthermore, it discussed how stand-up comedy might develop into a new creative business by evaluating the growth of the community, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as the growth of successful comics. In order to help the researchers doing the analysis, the researchers applied a qualitative method. They used two theories named Self-presentation concept by Goffman and Creative Industry theory by Richard Florida. The findings indicate that the creative industry does not always progress forward; interest in stand-up comedy decreased in various places, but it is still attempting to develop. Indonesian people are becoming more receptive to stand-up comedy as it is home to some of the world's most talented comics. Comics must be innovative in their approach to content creation to increase their popularity and viability. Apart from that, when comics are popular, they can inspire others to pursue careers as comics. As a result, comics members continue to grow in number, the community grows in size, and the creative business continues to flourish. Stand-up comedy has developed into popular culture and a new creative sector geared toward youth.

Being a stand-up comedian with medical issue requires the ability to apply certain techniques to create humor when performing stand-up comedy. Josh Blue (JB) is one of those well-known stand-up comedians diagnosed with cerebral palsy. This study aims to investigate the linguistics aspects applied by JB in delivering his jokes and how these aspects relate to identity JB wants to present. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data. The results reveal that JB uses irony in his stand-up comedy. In terms of linguistic features, JB mostly applies silent pause, while in joke technique JB applies self-ridicule. These findings suggest that the linguistics aspects used by JB present that disability can be a special identity that affects people’s perception and their ways of interaction with other people. JB linked each of his experience of being disabled by wrapping it well as his joke technique. JB has privilege in processing his disability into a primacy in joke technique without sounding condescending and even sarcastic.

The article deals with the investigation of the communicative and linguistic features of the comic discourse on the basis of the English-language fictional works by M. Spark, R. Dahl, K. Vonnegut Jr, I. Shaw, R. Carver and K. Barry. The author represents the description of a comic discourse in terms of Linguistic Pragmatics. Extra-linguistic components of the literary text creating and actualizing, which include pragmatic characteristics, social and cultural factors, psychological peculiarities, cognitive component and paralinguistic supplement, are described. The article also provides a detailed classification of comic discourse linguistic components on the material of belles-letters communication in the works of aforementioned writers. All linguistic characteristics within five groups, according to the violation/lack/incompleteness of the discourse certain communicative qualities disclosure, are distinguished. Besides, there is a thorough analysis of the presupposition as a constituent part in the comic discourse definition. The article dwells on the interlocutors’ micro and macro presuppositions introducing, the absence of which leads to non-cooperative communication with, predominantly, a comic effect. The results of the experiment show that the participants’ (readers’ particularly) background knowledge helps them interpret a literary discourse. The article continues the study of special special means and techniques of comic effect producing that provides a further understanding of the authors’ individual styles.
