Stand-Alone Solar Organic Rankine Cycle Water Pumping System and Its Economic Viability in Nepal

Abstract: Abstract:The current study presents the concept of a stand-alone solar organic Rankine cycle (ORC) water pumping system for rural Nepalese areas. Experimental results for this technology are presented based on a prototype. The economic viability of the system was assessed based on solar radiation data of different Nepalese geographic locations. The mechanical power produced by the solar ORC is coupled with a water pumping system for various applications, such as drinking and irrigation. The thermal efficiency … Show more

“…Therefore, a minimum attractive rate of return (cost of capital of the company) was assumed to reinvest the positive cash flows and the The profitability index (PI) identifies the relationship between expenses and the profit of the proposed system as a ratio [49]. Thus, a probabilistic profitability index analysis is also conducted to address the potential economic risk, and the results provide an accurate indication of the return period over the investment period [50].…”

“…Baral and Kim [67] analysed the economic viability of a standalone organic Rankine cycle system that functions on solar thermal energy to pump water for drip irrigation in rural Nepalese area. The authors performed experiments based on a prototype and analysed the economic viability of the system based on the solar radiation data described in Fig.…”
