Stakeholder Engagement for Green Process Innovation: Exploring the Link and Boundary Conditions

Abstract: Despite the growing research attention towards the role of stakeholders in developing green innovations, there is limited understanding of the mechanism and specific firm-level conditions under which stakeholder engagement enhances green innovation. Drawing on the Stakeholder theory and the Natural Resource Based View, this paper theorizes that absorptive capacity and risk-taking behaviour are underlying mechanisms and boundary conditions respectively in the stakeholder engagement-green process innovation rela… Show more

“…The growing importance of green innovation calls for an understanding of its determinants (Yang & Jiang, 2023). Successful green innovation requires knowledge resources that are seldom available in a single organization (Appiah, 2023). Therefore, firms must acquire and integrate knowledge from partners in the external environment—customers, suppliers, research institutions, and so forth—to support their internal resources (Du et al, 2018; Kong et al, 2020; Lee & Kim, 2011; Martínez‐Ros & Kunapatarawong, 2019; Yang & Lin, 2020).…”
