Stakeholder engagement, Csr development and Sdgs compliance: A systematic review from 2015 to 2021

Abstract: The conceptualization of the stakeholders of the companies for the fulfillment of the objectives of sustainable development is controversial, even more so, if it is approached from the perspective of corporate social responsibility and the psychology of the employees and their behavior. The existing literature and knowledge on the relationship among the stakeholder approach, corporate social responsibility and the achievement of the SDGs remain unstructured and fragmented.

“…Indeed, if stakeholder theory (ST) might be considered as a segue of CSR (Carroll, 1991), these organisations emphasise the concept of stakeholders (Freeman, 1984), not only outlining specific groups but even considering actions that have a large set of stakeholders as beneficiaries (Hess et al, 2002; Matten & Moon, 2008; Waddock, 2008). Given that stakeholders' conceptualisation of the objectives of sustainable development is debated, especially regarding its relationship with CSR (Campra et al, 2020; López‐Concepción et al, 2021), it is undoubtable that the essence of an NGO is to give answers to stakeholders who cannot find them in the market and through public interventions (Weisbrod, 1988). This even extends to the entire planet, such as the case of those initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, through advocacy activities aiming to modify both market and public activities towards the respect of the environment.…”
