Stages of Gold Deposits Formation in the Precambrian of the North-Eastern Fennoscandia

Abstract: Two main stages of formation of gold deposits are identified in the north-eastern part of the Fennoscandian Shield—Neoarchean (2.7–2.6 Ga) and Paleoproterozoic (1.92–1.74 Ga). These were the stages of rapid growth of the continental crust of the Earth and the consolidation of the ancient supercontinents, Kenorland in the Neoarchean, and Fennoscandia (or Columbia) in the Paleoproterozoic. Gold deposits and occurrences, which formed in the Archean (Oleninskoe and Nyalm in the Kolmozero–Voron’ya belt, and the Ole… Show more

“…Gold occurrences of Neoarchean age are located in the north-eastern part of the region, within the Kola province and north of it, in the Kolmozero-Voron'ya belt [46]. The deposits and occurrences, located south of the Kola province, are of Paleoproterozoic age, even those hosted by the Archean greenstone belts [46].…”

“…Close age 2.64-2.68 Ga (U-Pb, SHRIMP, outer zones of zircon) was obtained for gold-mineralized in skarnoids in the Olenegorsk BIF deposit [47] in the Kola province. Gold deposits in the Kolmozero-Voron'ya belt are older: ~2.82 Ga (Oleninskoe) and ~2.78 Ga (Nyalm-1) [46].…”
