“…Another manner of brine shrimp cyst production is the cultivation in inland saltworks or hypersaline ponds (e.g., China, Kenya and Vietnam), which facilitates a better biological and environmental controls to achieve sustainable cyst production (Baert et al, 1997;Van Stappen et al, 2020). Owning the significant role of Artemia in the industry, two UN-recognized Artemia Reference Centres has been established at Ghent University, Belgium and Tianjin University of Science and Technology, China, where scientists are working on the pioneer aspects of genomic sequencing, genetic and microbial regulations, nutrition and exploitation of new cyst resources (Sorgeloos, 1980;FAO, 2017;Sorgeloos and Roubach, 2021;Duan et al, 2022). Based on the great scientific contributions, the supply chain of Artemia cysts and their relevant products are successfully marketed by several companies, such as INVE Aquaculture Co. in Belgium and Ocean Star International Co. in the USA.…”

“…Artemia has a short reproductive cycle, viviparous and ovoviviparous reproduction modes, high level of genetic variability, and easy handling in the laboratory; thus, it is an ideal experimental organism in genetics, developmental biology, and molecular biology studies (Baxevanis et al, 2006;Duan et al, 2014Duan et al, , 2022. This study aimed to (1) determine the genetic diversity of Artemia in central and western China to guide the rational exploitation of Artemia resources, (2) explore the genetic structure to provide a reasonable reference for taxonomy (especially Tibetan Artemia), and (3) elucidate the relationship between geographic isolation and genetic differentiation using IBD (isolation by distance).…”

“…Apart from being a major part of the food chain and biological regulator of brine ecosystems [1][2][3], Artemia, especially Artemia nauplii obtained by hatching Artemia cysts, are the crucial live food item in sh and shrimp larviculture [4]. In addition, Artemia has the virtues of shorter reproduction cycle, occurrence of viviparous and ovoviviparous reproduction mode, high level of genetic variability and easy handling in laboratory (Manfra et al, 2015), and thus is an ideal experimental organism in genetics, developmental biology and molecular biology study (Baxevanis et al, 2006;Duan et al 2014; Duan et al, 2022) .…”
