“…However, we need more work to explore the mechanism behind this. As we all know, cellular TGF- β 1 exists in a biologically inactive (latent) form by combing with latency-associated peptide (LAP) [ 35 ]. Unexpectedly, our results showed that several manipulation platelet concentrates contain only mature TGF- β 1.…”

“…Patients' platelets also had significantly higher levels of latent TGF-β1 than controls. Moreover, platelet-active TGF-β1 levels correlated with P-selectin (r = 0.7299, p < 0.0001), CD40L (r = 0.6397, p = 0.001), C-reactive protein (CRP, r = 0.5483, p = 0.002), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR, r = 0.5296, p = 0.003) in CAD [20]. These correlations may indicate proinflammatory and pro-aggregatory properties and their relationship with platelet active TGF-β1 levels.…”

“…J. Ahmadi and colleagues found that platelet-borne and soluble TGF-β1 levels are higher in CAD patients compared to healthy controls (30 patients and 30 healthy volunteers) [20]. The amount of mature TGF-β1 was eight-fold higher in the platelets of patients.…”

“…[61,62] In atherosclerotic lesions with activated vascular endothelium, there are also other components expressing CD40/ CD40L besides immune cells, such as vascular smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, and platelets. [33,52,63] The surface expression of both CD40 and CD40L on these cells can lead to similar biological functions as that of monocytes/macrophages in atherosclerotic lesions, including the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, adhesion, and co-stimulatory molecules expression, and the production of prothrombotic tissue factors. [64,65] For vascular smooth muscle cells, ligation of CD40 can induce the production of metalloproteinases to promote plaque rupture, [66] and CD40 signaling can activate the Src family kinase pathway, leading to the induction of MAPK activities.…”
