Stabilizing LD power in wide temperature range by means of optical filter

Abstract: We propose an optical power stabilized LD module without APC circuit and monitor PD. It utilizes the temperature dependence of LD wavelength. With the designed filter, the power penalty is suppressed to Odl3 at full operating temperature range and the optical signal power level reduction is only 1.2dB at 15°C and Odl3 at 70°C in 1.3pm InGaAsP/InP FP MQW LD. We also demonstrate the method by means of the fiber-coupler-filter.
