Stabilization of LTI systems with communication constraints

Abstract: This work is directed towards exploring interactions of communication and control in systems with communication constraints. Examples of such systems include groups of autonomous vehicles, MEMS arrays and systems whose sensors and actuators are distributed across a network. We extend some recent results involving stabilization of LTI systems under limited communication and address a class of feed-forward control problems for the systems of interest.

“…Sometimes, all the data packets containing the plant measurements may not be permitted to be transmitted because of limited bandwidth, which may deteriorate the system performance and stability. The problem of stabilization with finite communication bandwidth was introduced in [42] and further dealt with in [43]. A new framework for distributed control systems was introduced in [44], which used estimators at each node to achieve significant savings in the required bandwidth.…”

“…The communication bus select a transmitting signal by periodic pattern, so that the NCS is described as a periodic system. This model was first proposed by Brockett [3] and Hristu presents a solution of this problem based on the simulated annealing [5]. Shinmyo et al proposed different algorithm and obtained a better result [6].…”

“…For example, it is well known that in a broadcast network, only one communication channel is provided and thus only one node is allowed to transmit packets to another node at each transmission instant. In this paper we call this issue as the communication constraint in networked systems, keeping the terminology used in [1,2,8]. Moreover, in networked systems data has to be quantized before transmission, and packets may be lost during transmission due to the unreliability of the networks.…”

“…Up to now, the control problem of networked systems has received extensive research attention, see for example, [1][2][3]7,8,11,14,15,[23][24][25]29], and the references therein. On the other hand, the filtering problem of networked systems also receives increasing attention [7].…”
