Stability problems of PV inverter in weak grid: a review

Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) power generation, as one important part of renewable energy, has been greatly developed in recent years. The stability of PV inverters is very important for the normal operation of PV systems. However, most PV systems, especially the large PV plants, locate in rural areas. The corresponding equivalent grid impedance is rather large and easy to lead to stability problems of grid-connected inverters and many researches have been done focusing on the stability problems. In this study, a survey o… Show more

“…Thus, it produces discrete time interval outputs, where system conditions are counted in specific discrete periods using a fixed time phase, and outputs are generated at discrete time intervals. In realtime simulation of power systems, digital real-time simulation is used to achieve the desired results [35]. For example, the use of electromagnetic temporal type approaches uses digital computer time domain solutions to achieve the desired results [36].…”

“…And the actual measurement data is used to characterize the load [36]. In addition to being noteworthy because it has the ability to serve as the first step in harmonizing steady-state and transient models, it also has the potential to unify power system assessments under a unified framework [37].…”

“…It is noteworthy that as inverters become an even more massive technology, they are influencing an increasing penetration of renewables, each one continuously seeking the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for delivery to the system. Thus, as the proportion of sources that provide inertia and damping in distribution systems decreases, renewables and inverters operating at MPPT could have an even greater impact on a frequency event [8]. With both the present and the future-when power generation could have an even higher proportion of renewable sources connected through inverters-in mind, it has been proposed that power converters could emulate the behavior of synchronous generators, thus providing frequency support [3], [5], [9], [10].…”
