Stability of the Pipe Poiseuille Flow. With Respect to Axi and Nonaxisymmetric Disturbances

Abstract: A variational formulation, developped some years ago by Prigogine and Glansdorff, is used in order to study the stability of pipe Poiseuille flow. Numerical results are presented both for axi and non-axisymmetric disturbances. They show that in a pipe of infinite length, Poiseuille flow is always stable against infinitesimal disturbances. This is in agreement with the results of previous works.
