The software trustworthiness measurement is an essential research subject in trustworthy software. Software trustworthiness measurement validation can show whether the measurement is adequate for measuring the software trustworthiness. There are many research results in software trustworthiness measurement validation. In this paper, we survey software trustworthiness measurement theoretical validation and empirical validation. The research states of software trustworthiness measurement theoretical validation are summarized from the view of validation based on measurement theory and validation based on axiomatic approaches, and state-of-the-art empirical validation methods are studied through case studies, surveys, and experiments. Lastly, we analyze the challenges faced in software trustworthiness measurement validation.

Software trustworthiness is an important research field in software engineering. In order to appropriately evaluate it, some different measurement approaches have been proposed, which have important guiding significance for improving software trustworthiness. Recently, we have investigated attributes-based approaches. That is, how to maximize trustworthy degree of some software satisfying a given threshold by adjusting every attribute value such that the cost is minimal, i.e., the sum of all attribute values is as small as possible. The work is helpful to improve the software quality under the same cost. This paper continues this work and considers a reallocation approach to dealing with the problem that the threshold and the minimal constraints of every attribute values dynamically increase. In this process, the costs of trustworthiness improvement should be ensured to be minimal. For this purpose, we firstly define a reallocation model by mathematical programming. Then we introduce the notion of growth function. Based on this, a polynomial reallocation algorithm is designed to solve the above reallocation model. Finally, we verify our work on spacecraft softwares and the results show that this work is valid.

Third‐party software has streamlined the software engineering process, allowed software engineers to focus on developing more advanced components, and reduced time and cost. This shift has led to software development strategies moving from competition to collaboration, resulting in the concept of software ecosystems, in which internal and external actors work together on shared platforms and place their trust in the ecosystem. However, the increase in shared components has also created challenges, especially in security, as the large dependency trees significantly enlarge a system's attack surface. The situation is made worse by the lack of effective ways to measure and ensure the trustworthiness of these components. In this article, we explore current approaches used to evaluate trust in software ecosystems, focusing on analyzing the specific techniques utilized, the primary factors in trust evaluation, the diverse formats for result presentation, as well as the software ecosystem entities considered in the approaches. Our goal is to provide the status of current trust evaluation approaches, including their limitations. We identify key challenges, including the limited coverage of software ecosystem entities; the objectivity, universality, and environmental impacts of the evaluation approaches; the risk assessment for the evaluation approaches; and the security attacks posed by trust evaluation in these approaches.
