Stability of rice bran oil extracted by SFE and soxhlet methods during accelerated shelf-life storage

Abstract: SUMMARY:Supercritical fluid high oryzanol (SFE HO) and supercritical fluid low oryzanol (SFE LO) rice bran oils were obtained and compared with that extracted by the Soxhlet (SOX) method. Their composition and stability during storage were determined. The amount of unsaponifiable matter and gamma oryzanol of SFE samples were significantly (p<0.05) higher than SOX. While the amount of tocopherol in SOX (4.0 mg·g -1 ) was higher than that reported in SFE HO and SFE LO, at 3.2 and 2.6 mg·g -1 , respectively. Afte… Show more

“…After storage for 42 days at 70 , the peroxide value, free fatty acid percentage, conjugated diene and panisidine values of the Soxhlet extracted RBO were higher than those of SC-CO 2 extraction. Thus, the SC-CO 2 RBO samples showed better stability than those RBO samples obtained from Soxhlet extraction 53 . Besides its stability in terms of edible oil, the physiological safety of SC-CO 2 extracted RBO has also been evaluated.…”

“…The RBO phytochemical contents under the optimum conditions of 50 MPa, 60 for 90 min were up to 1,800 ppm of tocols, 19,000 ppm of sterols, and 11,000 ppm of oryzanols 52 . On the other hand, the stabilities of RBOs obtained by SC-CO 2 extraction and hexane Soxhlet method were studied during accelerated shelf-life storage 53 . Compositionally, unsaponifiable matters and γ-oryzanols of SC-CO 2 samples were higher than from hexane Soxhlet extraction, but the amount of tocopherol was lower.…”

“…Briefly, the powder of bayberry kernels (5.00 g) was placed in a Soxhlet apparatus and then continuously extracted for 8 h using aether (34.6°C). After extraction, the aether was removed at 45.0°C under reduced pressure with a rotary vacuum evaporator (Mariod et al, 2015). The oil was then dried in an oven at 65.0°C to remove residual solvent and water.…”
