Stability of cluster solutions in a cooperative consumer chain model

Abstract: Abstract. We study a cooperative consumer chain model which consists of one producer and two consumers. It is an extension of the Schnakenberg model suggested in [9,22] for which there is only one producer and one consumer. In this consumer chain model there is a middle component which plays a hybrid role: it acts both as consumer and as producer. It is assumed that the producer diffuses much faster than the first consumer and the first consumer much faster than the second consumer. The system also serves as a… Show more

“…Therefore it will be interesting to consider reaction-diffusion systems of three and more components and investigate the role which spike clusters play in such systems. One such system is a consumer chain model for which existence and stability of a clustered spiky pattern has been investigated by the first two authors [25]. However, a more systematic approach will be needed to gain a better understanding of the role played by spike clusters in guiding biological development.…”

“…The paper [41] is a companion to the current one. In that work the diffusion constants are chosen as follows: the diffusivity for the first component is much larger than for the second, and for the second it is much larger than for the third.…”
