Square Wave Anodic Stripping Determination of Silver Using a Carbon Paste Electrode Modified with a Strong Acid Ion-Exchanger

Abstract: A chemically modified carbon paste electrode was developed for the determination of silver by incorporating the ion-exchanger Dowex 50 W Â 12 into a conventional graphite-Nujol oil paste. Silver(I) was accumulated at the electrode surface from solutions of the sample under open circuit conditions, then reduced at constant potential in a separate 0.1 M HNO 3 solution and finally determined by square wave (Osteryoung) anodic stripping voltammetry. The influence of paste composition, acummulation/reduction time, … Show more

“…A very sensitive technique for determination of silver ions based on PVC-membrane ion-selective bulk optode has been published [23]. Besides that, there have been shown number of different modifications working electrode to determine silver ions sensitively [24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32].…”

“…A number of analytical characteristics of the NBHAE-MCPE were compared with those previously reported for Ag(I) voltammetric sensors. 23,25,26,29,31,[34][35][36][37][38][39] The results are summarized in Table 4. As can be seen, the NBHAE-MCPE electrode shows better analytical characteristics, such as a lower detection limit and wider linear except, than previous reports.…”

“…The commonly used instrumental analysis techniques for silver ion determination in environmental waters are atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) (Soylak and Cay 2007); inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) (Jingyu, Zheng, and Haizhon 2002); inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) (Smith, Motovka, and Willson 1984); stripping voltammetry (SV) (Gellon, Gonzalez, and Fontan 2003); high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (Mikelova et al 2007); and ion selective electrodes (ISE) (Singh, Singh, and Bhattacharjee 2003).…”
