Square pulse linear transformer driver

Abstract: The linear transformer driver (LTD) technological approach can result in relatively compact devices that can deliver fast, high current, and high-voltage pulses straight out of the LTD cavity without any complicated pulse forming and pulse compression network. Through multistage inductively insulated voltage adders, the output pulse, increased in voltage amplitude, can be applied directly to the load. In this paper, we present the design and first test results of an LTD cavity that generates such a type of out… Show more

“…Comparing with the parameters of the Marx generator in Table 1, the triangular pulse has lower rising edge and falling edge which were set specially. The pulse length also meets the expectation (4)(5). It can stably generate this pulse of ~120 kV in 0.1 Hz.…”

“…Owing to magnet cores, LTD generators have low efficiency and big sizes. It is more complex to generate square pulses [4] than Marx generators. Compared with these generators, Marx generators are good choice to generate standard rectangular pulses in high efficiency.…”

“…pulses can be generated from a single LTD cavity, as shown in Fig. 24(c,d) [35]. The flat-topped pulses are obtained by setting τ brick = 3 · τ brick = (3π/2) L brick C brick , where τ brick is the rise time of the main bricks, and τ brick , L brick , and C brick are the rise time, inductance, and capacitance of the faster bricks.…”
