Spread in Modal Data Obtained from Wind Turbine Blade Testing

Abstract: This paper presents a pre-study for an on-going research project in experimental dynamic substructuring, initiated by the SEM Substructuring Focus Group. The focus group has selected a small wind turbine, the Ampair 600W, to serve as test bed for the studies. The turbine blades are considered in this study. A total of 12 blades have been tested for modal properties in a freefree configuration. The data has been acquired and analysed by students participating in the undergraduate course "Structural Dynamics -Mo… Show more

“…The blade model is not recalibrated towards any of the blades used in this paper. It should be noted that Gibanica et al [11] showed that there exists a considerable spread between the blades. The interfaces between the bracket and blade, bracket and shaft, and shaft and hub are modelled as flexible connections using the CWELD element.…”

“…The largest deviation is found for flexible mode five. It should be repeated that the FE model of the blade was calibrated towards another blade and that it is known that the blades show a considerable spread in modal properties [11].…”
