Spot activity of II Peg

Abstract: We have studied the long-term spot activity of the RS CVn star II Peg by means of Doppler imaging based on spectroscopy and time series analysis of photometry. We present 28 Doppler imaging temperature maps spanning the years 1994-2010, of which 14 were calculated for the present study. The longitudinal spot distribution, derived from the surface temperature maps, is compared with epochs of the light curve minima, derived from photometric observations. We detect a longitudinal drift in the major spot structure… Show more

“…The photometric minima from our analysis, over plotted on the DI results with black crosses, closely coincide with the DI minima for the years with pronounced spot activity, while the differences are greater for the other epochs. Compared with the previous investigation of Hackman et al (2011), who used a different time-series analysis method for the photometric data, we find the results to agree fairly well. Therefore we conclude that the linear drift pattern is an authentic A97, page 7 of 10 1988.7 1988.75 1988.8 1988.85 1988.9 1988.95 1989 1989 1985.45 1985.5 1985.55 1985.6 1985.65 1985.7 1985.75 1985.8 Phase…”

“…In this section we compare the temperature minima obtained from Doppler imaging (DI) by Hackman et al (2011) to the photometric results; in all, 28 surface temperature maps of the object were derived for the years 1994-2010. For comparison purposes, we plot in Fig.…”
